I did it, I ran the London Marathon and it was totally and utterly brilliant. OK , I know that I’m writing this 48 hours after the event but I’ve been saying it was brilliant even at the finish and yesterday too. A totally amazing experience, yes I hurt, but I’d do it again, no problem, even thought that when I finished. So here’s some of the story……………Blackheath, 8.30am Sunday, my friend Pat and her son Oliver dropped me off right on the heath, blue skies, sunshine. the event was really well organised, dropping my bag off on the baggage lorries without a queue was very civilised, not experienced that before, it’s usually a rare old fight. Eldest daughter and I went up to the Marathon Expo yesterday to collect my race number and chip, very excited now. Had a lovely chat with Carl on the Wellchild stand who said that he can tell the runners who are first timers and excited as they always turn up on Wed or Thurs, the ones who are in the ‘been there, done it, bought the T-shirt’ turn up on Saturday as late as possible and are grumpy.

Jasper the run dog and I had some lovely runs through the woods last week, taking it easy and just enjoying the mud.

On Saturday night we rented ‘Run, Fat Boy, Run’ with Simon Pegg – really relevant as it’s about him attempting a marathon. This is a brilliant film for anyone who is into running and it’s very, very funny. Only problem was that on Sunday I went out for my pre-marathon 7.5 miler in the snow and sunshine (gorgeous) in full kit with my 11 year old on her bike. so now I’ve got another training partner, it was great but at one point I stopped for a drink and got ‘Mummy, you’re not allowed to stop, I have a spatula and I’m not afraid to use it!’ from her – you need to see the film to understand, I then couldn’t stop giggling for the next mile.

Reverted back to the old trainers, no orthotics, and for the 7.5 miles they were great but they usually are, it’s from 8-9 miles it gets painful. Just have to load up on nurofen for the big day and then start being sensible and begin Triathlon training ready for end of July. (more…)

Lets start with Easter weekend – lovely, not! I knew that I wouldn’t manage to get a long run in this weekend as I was demonstrating in the Cookery Theatre of the Chilterns Food Festival so I decided this was a great opportunity  break in the new orthotics and trainers. (more…)
