My son, the mini chef

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I nicked out on Sunday afternoon as my youngest daughter had been invited to a cooking party – run by Splat – and the Mums had all been invited to stay for champagne, heaven. I did feel for the two Emmas who were running the party, with boss staying and checking out what they were doing but they were brilliant. I’ve never been to one of our parties as just a Mum, I’ve always been running them so this was real treat. Elizabeth asked me today if there was anything I’d do differently and there wasn’t, it ran smoothly, the children had a great time and Mum was happy.

While I was out of the house my son, aged 6, decided to make Millionaire’s Shortbread, he’d already done it at Cooking Club at school with me last week and quite wisely asked his big sister to help him rather than his Dad (!). When we got back home there was the most yummy Millionaire’s Shortbread waiting for us with homemade butterscotch sauce which eldest daughter had then used to make toffee apple crumble and left just sufficient to pour over ice cream. Husband was genuinely impressed and the food was yummy.

Very clever children.

Iced BBQ Birthday Cake

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Photo of the finished cake, it was really nice, lovely and light, not burnt on the bottom which I feared would happen, the muffins were great, really, really easy. No more excuses for not making cakes when camping now!

Barbeque Birthday Cake

Barbeque Birthday Cake

My daughter’s 12th birthday was while we were on holiday on the Ile de Re in France this summer and I had to figure out how to make her a birthday cake in the tent, or rather outside the tent. Not sure if it would work but had a go anyway.
