The Gift of Oil

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

The oils and balsamic vinegars this company sell are out of this world. I’ve used lots of oils over the years but these are just the best. The Sicilian is my favourite, closely followed by the Catalan and the Truffle Oil is just amazing drizzled over Porchini Mushroom Risotto. Their balsamic is yummy and if you have a wish list you have to put on it the 50 or 100 year old balsamic and don’t share it with anyone!

Try their black label balsamic drizzled over ice cream or strawberries or crusty bread and some of the green label and the Sicillian oil to dip – heaven.

Matthews Flour

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Matthews make the wonderful flour, they are pretty local to us in the Cotwolds and make a range of flour, organic flour and french flour. They supply us organic biscuit flour for our cooking kits and their wonderful bread flour for our bread and pasta courses and workshops. You can buy their flour straight from their website and they do great french flour mixes such as brioche and croissant mix. They’re also very nice people. Their phone number is 01993 830 342. www.fwpmatthews.co.uk

new web design for 2009

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Now that the Christmas rush has died down, I’ve decided to try to clean up a number of ragged edges of the various websites that Splat operates. Visitors to www.splatcooking.net will be greeted by a simple set of choices accessible by clicking on the relevant graphic. I have also started on a cookery school page (called classroom) to contain the rapidly growing number of videos about cooking that the Splat team keep posting to various places on the web.

Next step is to merge the store and the other sites into one…don’t hold your breath!
