My new baby has arrived!

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

We brought Sid home today, it’s 8pm and both dogs have just gone to sleep so we’re making the most of having 5 minutes peace with a glass of wine, not sure how long it will last or whether we’ll be able to watch the whole episode of ‘Lost’ in one go but we’ll see.  It’s very tempting to pick Sid up and cuddle him.  Brings back memories of when the children were babies and you’d just got them off to sleep but the temptation was still there to pick them and cuddle them…..still there even with a puppy.

Summer’s Here

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

All Northerners will appreciate this, any Southern Softies will soooo  not get it….

It’s above freezing point, the sun’s out so what am I doing……..I’m sitting on a sunlounger in the garden eating an ice cream, actually it’s my favourite, Nobbly Bobbly ice lolly.  the children have given up and gone indoors moaning about being cold.  To quote my lovely Mother-in-law Jean “There’s no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing”, so I’m wearing my fake fur coat and boots and it’s lovely out here, the children have too many Southern genes, don’t know the meaning of the word ‘cold’.

Mermaid Cake – the last knockings

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Small boys’ mermaid cake is  no more, it has been devoured though not before giving me a really, really good laugh at the expense of my Big Girl…

Big Girl picked up the leg that has been in the shark’s mouth and screamed, not a little ‘eek’ but a fully blown scream and almost dropped the leg.  The reason – she thought that as well as painting blood on the ‘ripped off’ part that I had inserted bone and sinew and she jumped when she looked down at it and thought she saw bone sticking out and it was just too realistic.  I could be flattered by her assuming that my modelling technique was that spectacular, after all, we’re talking a leg that’s about 5cm long…….but I was to busy collapsing on the floor laughing that I couldn’t focus on anything else.

I hadn’t inserted bone and sinew but the leg was stuck in the shark’s mouth and inside the shark’s mouth I’d made a pink tongue, even thought I had been reminded that sharks don’t have tongues, I didn’t know that.  When Big Girl pulled the leg out of the shark’s mouth some of the grey of the shark and the pink of the tongue attached to the ‘ripped off’ part of the leg looking like there was bone and sinew sticking out.  Flipping amazing, I couldn’t have modelled it in that fine detail if I’d tried, haven’t had a laugh like that for ages.  Also spent most of the evening coming up behing Big Girl and sticking the leg in front of her making her jump – wicked, cruel Mother, but it did make me laugh.
