Supercamps – Cookery Masterclasses

by Beverley Glock on August 13th, 2010

I carried out my first site visits at some of the sites that Supercamps are delivering our Cookery Masterclasses from today, very impressed.  I trained the staff at the beginning of the summer so I was pretty confident that the delivery of the classes was going to be spot on, it was, but it was really nice to see them in action and the children gave me such great feedback and obviously having a great time. Feedback from the parents had been excellent too, one parent had said that they hadn’t really thought that the children would be dong ‘real cooking’ and were very pleasantly surprised.

I had my spies testing out Supercamps from the other angle too.  My childcare for small boy and medium sized girl fell through yesterday and with the choice of either dragging them along with me and being stuck in the car all day or booking them into the local Supercamps at Ladymede School the latter was the option I decided to go with.  Talk about having a paddy – small boy had a hissy fit, medium sized girl was totally unimpressed but decided that she’d ‘put up with it as long as it was just ONE day’.

Dropped them off at 9am this morning, drove around the home counties to visit the sites and decided to collect them early at 3.30pm, well, they weren’t happy about going in the first place so I didn’t want to leave them until 6pm in case they weren’t really enjoying themselves.

When I collected them I was met with long faces, panic, oh no, was it that bad. NO WAY, it was

‘SO COOL,’

‘why are you picking us up now, we haven’t done sport yet?’,

‘Can we come back tomorrow?’,

‘if you didn’t need to pick us up now can you take us back and get us later?’

were the comments, so I think that after all the hissy fits they had a really good time. I’ve been trying really hard not to ‘grown ups know what’s best!’ as I know it will come back to bite me, but it’s soooo tempting, however, ‘hah, told you so’ was muttered under my breath.

So on Monday I’ll be on the phone trying to book them back in next week, although medium sized girl did ask why she only got to do one day when some of the children had been there all week and this was so unfair.

Supercamps, you’re brilliant, and not just for the Cookery Masterclasses but the multiactivity stuff too. All the Food team deserve a pat on the back, especially the ones who had to deliver the course when I was watching, sorry ladies, I know that was nerve wracking but you did really well.
