Duck Massaman Curry and Small Children
I’m very, very proud of my small children, aged 6 and 8, who tried and ate Duck Massaman Curry on Sunday evening.
I spent Sunday playing with duck and venison to come up with game recipes for the Yorkshire Game Fair I’m demonstrating at this weekend (Harewood House, Sun 25 and Mon 26 May near Leeds). After spending my 20s with marinading ducks hanging in airing cupboards and making and fiendishly wonderful crispy duck salad with plum sauce I was a little miffed that I won’t have an oven so can’t do my usual duck recipes. With a 4 ring hob only I’ve had to get creative.
Duck is used a lot in Thai curries so I tried my Cheat’s Massaman curry recipe which I’ve been doing at the food festivals this year using duck. My 6 year old loves duck and agreed to try it, ‘oooooh, that’s yummy, can I have some more?’ was his comment, followed by raised eyebrows from 8 year old who won’t let her little brother better her at anything….consequently they both had duck massaman curry for tea and ate it all (poor dog wasn’t happy, he likes duck too!). I did reduce the chilli content thought. 11 year old was quite put out by this, as she reckons she has the embargo on curry and was rather miffed that her younger siblings have discovered they like it so she’ll have to share the curry five ways rather than three.
