Windy Woods – 3 miles of mud and good friends

by Beverley Glock on March 12th, 2008

Supposed to be a 50 min run today, ended up with a 30 minute run with the dog through the woods. Ran from the pub up to the top of Whiteleaf Cross, whoa, really blowy, definitely no cobwebs left at all, ducked back into the woods again. Loads of mud, meant that I couldn’t really do a fab pace as it was so slippy and I really don’t want an injury this close, having the foot problems is bad enough.

Dog and I had a lovely time, loads of lovely squelchy muddy mud, love it. Hopefully the wind will drop tomorrow and we can trudge up the Phoenix Trail and do some flat miles, that’s no fun in this wind as it’s just too exposed and I can’t do the roads with the dog – if not, MORE MUD!!!!! YES!

I called my friend Pat last night who lives over in SE London, this is true friendship, I haven’t seen her for ages, couple of years really but we go way back (scarily, way back, figured this morning that it’s probably a good 20+ years) and i was feeling a little guilty calling out of the blue to try and crash at her house the night before the marathon. Anyway, as soon as she picked up the phone she started the conversation with ‘Oooh Bev, I’m glad you called, can we come and invade you over the Easter hols…..’, that’s what true friendship is, doesn’t matter is you haven’t talked to each other or seen each other for months or years, as soon as you talk it’s like you just saw each other yesterday and of course I’d love to have them over for the Easter hols.

It is going to be difficult the evening before the marathon though. As Pat said, we can catch up over a couple of bottles of wine, oh, no, you probably can’t drink and will probably want to get to bed before 4am, hmmmm, OK I’ll drink the wine for you – real friendship.
